is both inspiring and fun to build your own nyckelharpa. It demands
patience and attention to detail. It is also good if you have knowledge
of working with wood and experience in the use of hand tools.
Many people have built fine instruments without any prior experience at all. The first thing you need is an instruction book and plans drawn to scale. I have prepared just such a book and plans, it is even translated into English. An excellent complement to the book and drawings is the film by Rita Leydon, "Build a Nyckelharpa with Sören Åhker". These materials reflect many years of experience in nyckelharpa building in addition to the help I received from other harpa builders in the early years.
